  Market strategy and competitiveness of bulgarian companies

  The purpose of the research is to justify the crucial importance of the strategic market- oriented company policy as an element (important factor) of competitiveness and especially the role of this factor in the forthcoming accession of Bulgaria to the EU; to determine the degree of companies' readiness to respond to challenges under the new conditions; to answer questions whether Bulgarian companies have strategic readiness for the EU accession, analytical and management methods, market strategies and action programmes and readiness to adapt them successfully.
  The role of the market strategy level and quality for the successful competitive development of Bulgarian companies is analysed.
  Emphasis is put on the necessity to consider requirements, characteristics and tools of the strategic analysis, forecasting, planning and control in the light of changed conditions under which the companies are going to operate.

  The impact of the fisc of macroeconomic fluctuations in bulgarian economy

  The role of discretionary fiscal policy and automatic budget stabilisers on macroeconomic fluctuations in the Bulgarian economy during the last ten years is analysed. Descriptive and econometric analyses based on aggregate components of the consolidated state budget are presented. Discretionary changes are evaluated through the dynamics of the primary structural budget balance. Results confirm conclusions in the empirical literature concerning the pro-cyclic role of governmental expenditures in transition and developing economies.

  Tax corruption: stimuli and restraints

  This paper studies recent findings of business and tax administration surveys on the scope and causes of corruption in tax administration in Bulgaria in the context of the theoretical models and empirical tests of corruption and evasion. It is an attempt to shift the current policy focus on sanctions and brakes to positive incentives. It studies the specific demand and supply-side drivers of corruption for the two broad categories of corruption services supplied by the tax administration: those, related to tax evasion and those, related to preferential treatment of taxpayers. On these grounds it draws some policy implications on the opportunities and limitations of the use of incentives, especially wage and bonus incentives in the fight against corruption in tax administration.

  Economic regionalism under the new conditions

  It is pointed out that integration processes in economic regional unions are deepening and as a result of them a number of unions transfer from inferior into superior ones. The process of establishing new free trade zones is accelerated. Some of them will unite countries from different continents (bi-regionalism).
  The process of economic regionalism is especially strong in South East Asia and it is possible the biggest mega free trade zone to emerge there in the near future.
  The number of bi-lateral agreements for establishing free trade zones is increasing too. The competition in the world economy intensifies even more and more.
